Peoria, AZ fence rules

• A city permit is required for any fence or wall over 7' tall. Building within the street right-of-way requires a permit from the Engineering Department, and heights above 8' must be approved by the City Engineer.
• On lots adjacent to a street, a wall may not exceed 7' on the lot side or 10' on the street side.
• On a corner lot contiguous to a key lot, a fence or wall over 3' may sit on the property line except within the sight triangle measured 10' from the street line along the common lot line and 20' along the property line toward the front of the corner lot.
• Your fence, wall, or gate must sit entirely on your own property unless the adjoining owner agrees in writing to build on the division line. This does not apply to the homebuilder's original wall.
• Barbed wire is prohibited except in the General Agriculture and Suburban Ranch zoning districts, at temporary construction sites or yards when 6' or more above grade, and for commercial or industrial security when 6' or more above grade.
• Every swimming pool must have a barrier or enclosure meeting Chapter 18 of the City Code.

Do you need a permit? Yes, over 3'. Peoria's Development and Engineering Department handout 503, Residential Fence or Block Wall, says a fence less than 3 feet at its tallest point does not require a building permit, and that over 3 feet in height a building permit and site plan are required and reviewed by Engineering. Walls over 7 feet in height need a permit through the Building department with structural calculations in the submittal, and retaining or sound walls go through Engineering with calculations whatever their height.
